“From and Into” ft. the University of Oxford’s Andrew Davison I Saturdays at Seven – Season Three, Episode Forty-Six - Christian Scholar’s Review

01/08/2026 · Article 🕐 🆕
In the forty-sixth episode of the third season of the “Saturdays at Seven” conversation series, Todd Ream talks with Andrew Davison, the Regius Professor of Divinity and Residentiary Canon of Christ Church Cathedral, University of Oxford. Davison begins by discussing the arc of a vocational discernment process that led him from completing a D.Phil. in chemistry at Oxford to completing a Ph.D. in theology at the University of Cambridge as well as ordination as an Anglican priest. In addition to the wisdom offered by theologians past and present, critical influences in that process also included service with a hospice program and as a parish priest. While not his original intent, Davison’s unique background in chemistry and theology eventually led him to study the complex relationship shared by science and religion. Davison discusses the vocational satisfaction he receives from service as a priest-scholar as he leads students through their courses of study, working on the various articles and books, and leading religious services. Regardless of the way he may be serving at a given time, Davison’s theological vision is defined by his understanding of participating and mediation. As a priest-scholar and one who views all of the roles in which he serves as complimentary components of a common vocation, Davison closes by exploring ways the Church and theologians can be of greater service to one another in the months and years to come.
