Uvalde County commissioners extended a New World screwworm disaster declaration June 22, days after local dog rescue Flights to Furever announced that new regulations in the state of New York effectively halted the group’s monthly dog transports from Texas over concerns about the pest. The extension allows Uvalde County to continue accessing state resources as Texas responds to growing numbers of screwworm infestations. Although no cases have been detected in Uvalde County, portions of the county fall within state-designated infested and surveillance zones that have added new requirements for moving livestock.
