Mark Olson apparently served several months on the Escondido Union School District board while living and working in Utah. However, he only resigned from that position at the end of July. The position pays $2,000 a month plus benefitsu2014which is more than what city council members are paid, for attending one or two meetings a month. Critics maintain he timed his departure to make it easier for the board to appoint someone to his seat, rather than open it up to a special election.
